How to Write a Check

 

It’s time to do a review.   

Like the loss of the skill to write in script, it is often needed to have a little reminder on how to use that paper check.  It's easy.  But you may need to remember it is a legal contract for the bank to act for you.  So, lets fill in the sections correctly.

 

 

 

The Dollar amount written out in Words must match the number in numerals in the box on the right.

 

The name of the person getting the money is the "To" or "Pay to the order of" line.

 

The Memo can say "July Rent"  or "Apt # 19" if the address preprinted on the top is not your new apartment address yet.

A Check is far better than a Credit Card or Debit Card for important items like Rents or Buying a Car or Deposits on a Home Purchase.

 

Stop giving a credit card company a % of all your spending.  AND you can be in receipt of a Proof of Payment with the endorsement on the back of the canceled check.  As many banks are not mailing them back to you, like in all the years prior to 1990's, you just need to go online to download a copy from your bank before it times out.  Some banks are 6 months now, and some are old school giving you up to 7 years. (6 years & 364 days).

 

A canceled check is often needed in an audit.  A lost check is replicable.  A mis handled Zelle is a LOST transaction.  No Recourse on a Zelle you send in error.  All the other Debits and Credit Card transactions enrich a mega banking service massively and costs a lot over time to the small business who is already on a small margin.
